Each morning the kindergartners observe the weather and mark in on this chart.  This is what the sky was like.{not counting the wind}.  It looks like South Dakota maybe is the "Sunshine State" after all.

Painting Spooky Pictures

The kids printed their white-painted hand onto the paper making cute, little ghosts.  Then they could create a Halloween scene.  The kindergartners love art and especially love to paint.  I will post the finished product after I display them tomorrow.

Homecoming Week

The kindergartners enjoyed homecoming week with coronation, dress-up days and homecoming parade!  We had a great week!

Birding at the Lake

On Homecoming Day, we were allowed to have a "fun day" with our students.  The kindergartners and I went exploring at Lake Alcazar.  We had such a nice time enjoying the beautiful fall day.  The children got to use their binoculars too.  They were able to see a young Pied-billed Grebe, European Starlings, American Robins and others.  When we returned we had popcorn and M&Ms while we watched a bit of a kid's movie.  We had a great morning!

Owl Drawing Lesson

Each year I teach a step-by-step owl drawing lesson.
I love the final product.  The kids did a great job!
I think they are really cute.

Patriotic Songs

Have you heard your child singing patriotic songs lately?  Each morning after the flag pledge, we sing a patriotic song and they love it.  I think its important for kids to know these songs.  I have taught them the following songs so far:

This Land is Your Land

You're a Grand Old Flag

America the Beautiful

They Passed the 100 Mark!

When I tallied up the tally marks, a loud cheer erupted from the kids!  They were SO thrilled!  The kindergartners love birds and they beg to learn more.  The are catching on quickly to bird identification.  They are watching for similarities in bird families and they have learned to watch for the details that distinguish one bird from another.  This skill transfers into noticing details in text and illustrations.  I have seen students excel at that in past years.

Pumpkins For All

A big thank you from all of us to Johanna's family!  They brought in the pumpkins that Grandpa grew in his field.  The kindergartners were very happy to have their own big pumpkin!  They each drew a face on their pumpkin.  I got a white pumpkin and I will change that into a jack-o-lantern as we get closer to Halloween.

Comparing Seeds

In Math and Reading class the students have been comparing how things look or comparing sets of items.  We also do a lot of comparing in Science class.  On this day we took a close look at seeds.  They were surprised by all of the different kinds of seeds.

They Can Identify 87 Birds!

Pumpkin Art

Paper Plate Skeletons

Cutting out and designing their very own paper plate skeleton was too much fun for the kindergartners!  They loved it and they were so proud of their funny skeleton!

Here we are on May 14th, the last day of school.  This day is always bittersweet for the kids and I who have become like a family.  We know ...
