The Annual Kindergarten Turkey Cookbook

“My dad will hunt the turkey.  He will get it with his bow and arrow. He will pick the feathers off and then he’ll cut it up.  Dad will put the meat in a pan.  He will shake on some pepper, salt and turkey seasoning.  He will put on some barbeque sauce and some cheese too.  He will put it in the 60-degree oven for 17 hours.  When it is done, we will eat it.

At my feast, we will have corn, pizza, pork, meat, grapes and for dessert we will have apple pie with whipped cream!”

“My dad will shoot a turkey out of a little forest where he shoots daddy deers.  Then he has to cut it up and cook it on the stove.  He puts on French fry seasoning on top.  Then he puts bacon on top.  He puts potatoes on top too.  He puts it in the 88-degree oven for 11 minutes.

We will eat it with these good foods:  chicken, mashed potatoes, corn, deer meat and fruit snacks.  For dessert we will have pumpkin pie and apples.”

“Me and my mom will buy a turkey for my family.  It will weigh 7 pounds and it will cost $8.00.  When we get it home, we will put it in hot water and leave it there for a while.  Then we will put it on a tray and sprinkle on some seasoning.  Next, we put it in the medium oven for 2 hours.

We would also eat mashed potatoes, corn, strawberries and cauliflower. For dessert, we would have pies like pumpkin pie, strawberry pie and blueberry pie.”

“We will probably get our turkey from the store.  It will weigh 30 pounds and it will cost $41.00.  First, my mom will unwrap the turkey and set it on a tray what’s big.  Then she will put on salt and pepper. Next, she’ll put it in the 100-degree oven for 11 minutes.

We would eat mashed potatoes, corn, green beans, grapes and oranges.  We would drink chocolate Silk milk. For dessert, we would have strawberry cake.”

“Daddy will hunt the turkey.  First, he will take the meat out and then he will clean it with water.  Then he will put it in a bag. He will put salt, pepper, pepperoni, and bacon on top.  He will put it in the microwave and cook it for 5 hours.

We will eat it with cereal - the ones that taste really good and are hard, pepperonis, bacon, pizza, and more turkey.  For dessert we will eat ice cream with sprinkles!”

“My dad will go hunt the turkey.  He will get it with the gray gun. He will pull the feathers out and then cut it up.  He’ll put the meat in a bowl. He will put barbeque, salt and pepper on it.  Then he will cook it on the grill.

At our Thanksgiving, we will eat apples, grapes, cheese sticks, peanut butter, ham, and purple potatoes.  For dessert, we will eat chocolate cake with chocolate frosting.”

“My mom will buy the turkey at the store.  It will probably weigh one pound and it will cost $60.00.  Dad takes off the wrapper and puts it on a big pan. He will sprinkle salt over it to make it tasteful. Then he will put on some little peppers.  It probably would need a little sugar too.  He puts it in the 69-degree oven for 7 hours.

We will eat it with little cherries and celery.  One bowl will have little yellow, red and green peppers.  We would drink lemonade.  I think little donuts would be cute. I really like to eat mashed tomatoes, no…I mean mashed potatoes!  I would like chocolate chip cookies too!  We would also eat a lot of mac and cheese.  For dessert, we would have a big cake with a cartoon turkey on it.  That would be so funny!”

By R. W.

“Me and my mom go hunting for turkeys away in field.  We will get it with an arrow.  We set it in the back of the pick-up.  We take the feathers off and we look inside the turkey to find some yucky stuff.  We leave the skin out in the field.  We clean it off with water and a little soap.  We put it in a pan.  We usually put pepper and salt on it.  Then we will put mustard on top of it.  Mom will put it in the 2-degree oven for 1 minute.

We will have other food too.  We will eat rice, broccoli, chicken noodle soup with broccoli and carrots.  For dessert we will eat chocolate chip mint ice cream!”

By L. S.

“We have a real turkey at our farm that is white.  We will have that for Thanksgiving. First, Grandma will catch the turkey and get everything ready.  Then, she will put it in a pan and put on some salt and pepper.  Then she will probably put on some ketchup – my favorite. She puts it in the 10-degree oven for 9 minutes. We will eat it with grapes, corn, carrots and mashed potatoes with gravy.  For dessert, we would have orange sherbet!”

Happy Veteran's Day!

Tomorrow is the Veteran's Day Program in our school gym.  This year the students will watch it from their classroom due to COVID-19.  We want to keep our veterans safe.  Some groups of kids will go in to perform, but leave when they are finished.  The kindergartners made these cute birds out of paper plates.  They learned about veterans, Veteran's Day an they learned about symmetry while trying to make the wings the same.  We listened to patriotic music and sang along.

The Halloween Party

Here is a glimpse of the kindergarten Halloween party.  I think they had a great time!  The first activity went like this...I played Halloween music and they danced.  When the music stopped, they froze
and then showed their scariest face.  So cute!

During this game the kids at one end of the room say to the "Ghost" at the other end of the room, "Mr. Ghost, Mr. Ghost!  What time is it?"  When the ghost says, "5 o'clock", the others take five steps closer.  When they get too close the ghost says, "Its time to eat you up!  Then he turns around and chases them trying to catch one.  They loved this game!

Then it was time to try to go bowling with a pumpkin!  So silly!

Next up, was the bean bag toss.
I was surprised at how well they did!

Then it was time for party food!  After that, we
watched a Cat in the Hat Halloween show to wind
down and rest before we headed home.

It was a great time!  A big thank you to the
Halloween party committee for all of
the nice things you sent!

Carving the Pumpkin

Someone didn't even want to be near the pumpkin
because he didn't like the way it feels.

Water Travels Through Stems

For one of our science experiments, I used celery and colored water to teach students how stems bring water up to the leaves.  The leaves make food for the plant.  They thought it was interesting to see the food coloring in the leaves.  You may want to try this at home too.

Fruit or Veggie Every Day

Did you know that each afternoon the cooks bring down a healthy snack for the kids?  It is either a fruit or a vegetable.  The idea is to have a chance to try a new food and for the kids to have a healthy snack! It works!  Quite often students will try something and like it.
We really have such a great school!

Here we are on May 14th, the last day of school.  This day is always bittersweet for the kids and I who have become like a family.  We know ...
