March 3, 2021 Exploring the Lake in the Winter

One of my favorite activities to do with the kindergartners
is to take them on outings to the lake in town.  The focus
today was to look at winter.  We talked about the ice and
ice safety.  We observed the grass, trees and bushes.  It
was a warm day and we didn't need coats, so I talked
as we get closer to spring there will be warm and cold days.

How cute are they?

We had a very nice time exploring!

The kids were identifying birds with their binoculars,
but also by ear.  We have been working on birds songs
and they were able to ID the White-breasted Nuthatch,
Eurasian Collared-Dove, Blue Jay and European Starlings.

The star of the day was this Great Horned Owl
sitting on her nest.
